Nicholas Hanson and Francesca Ferrara, both of Newburyport, were taken down by police and a SWAT Team at Hanson's apartment at 234 Low Street in Newburyport on Tuesday, Aug. 22, according to the Newburyport Police Department.
Hanson was wanted on multiple arrest warrants and had previously resisted arrest. Ferrara was also wanted on an arrest warrant.
Police saw the pair were in the apartment but could not get in contact with them, and knowing about Hanson's history of resisting capture, they set up a perimeter and called the Northeastern Massachusetts Law Enforcement Council SWAT Team.
They were able to arrest the pair without injury, police said.
“We would like to thank the NEMLEC SWAT team for resolving this situation peacefully,” Newburyport City Marshal Mark Murray said. “We were also grateful that officers were able to de-escalate the situation and affect the arrests without anyone getting hurt or injured. A job well done by all officers involved.”
Hanson was ordered to be held without bail. Ferrara was released on personal recognizance and was scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday.
